Product Details
Byzantine Period, 400 – 600 CE. 8.75” Inches high & 5.75” Inches Wide.
The Oriental-style amphora made its way to the Holy City during the Byzantine era. This particular piece is a medium-sized container, crafted on a potter's wheel, and remains in excellent condition. It features a pointed, ridged body that is finished with a small cylindrical foot and base and two handles. It likely held the renowned Gaza wine, which is referenced in various sources, including Isidore of Seville (Etym. 20, 3, 7).
